Life for Life Costa Rica
Life for Life is a small, grassroots sea turtle rescue project based near Drake Bay on Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula. It was started over 20 years ago by Ricardo, a local with a deep love for nature and a mission to protect the sea turtles nesting on his home beach. What began as a personal effort to guard nests from poachers has grown into a hands-on conservation project that has helped tens of thousands of baby turtles reach the ocean.
Despite not being a large organization, Life for Life continues to make a real impact through community support, eco-tourism, and volunteer help. Visitors can join sunrise patrols, help relocate vulnerable nests, and even release hatchlings into the waves—experiences that leave a lasting impression. Every turtle released is a reminder that even small projects, fueled by passion and purpose, can make a big difference.
Meeting Ricardo – Founder of Life for Life
It was an incredible experience meeting Ricardo in person and seeing firsthand the heart behind Life for Life. Even with limited resources, he chooses to dedicate every day to protecting sea turtles—often putting their safety and survival before his own comfort. His passion, humility, and unwavering commitment to this cause were truly inspiring, and it was an honor to stand beside him and learn from someone who lives his purpose so fully
